Abstract
238,453. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Sugden, J. Jan. 10, 1925. Automatic circuit-breakers or relays maintained in the closed or open position by a bi-metallic thermal strip and released, on excess current, by the heat developed in a heating coil as described in Specification 209,436, are restored to the closed position by an electromagnet the energizing circuit of which may be controlled from a distance. As shown, applied to three thermal relays in the supply of a three-phase motor, the thermal strips a normally maintain the relays in the position shown against the action of a spring. In this position the operating coil of the main contactor switch t is energized through the contacts h in series. If any arc of the thermal relays is tripped, due to excess current in its series heating coil, the energizing circuit is broken and the contactor assumes the off position. To reset any or all of the relays, the press-button switch u is closed by hand to energize the electromagnet p and, through the armature r, to move the ne-setting bar s. Tappets s<1> on this bar push the tripped relays into the re-set position. The relays may open the low-volt release coil of an oil switch so as to cut off the main current. Specification 202,321 also is referred to.
