Abstract

238,409. Bailey, C. Oct. 16, 1924. Perambulators; folding wheels; hoods.-In a folding baby carriage of the kind in which the wheels may be moved into an inoperative position within a body closable by a lid, an operative connection is provided between the lid and the wheel-carrying members, whereby the latter are swung outwards as the lid is opened and inwards as it is closed. As shown in Fig. 6, the body in the form of a box comprises a frame 1, 2 and a hinged lid 4, the bottom of the box being open or slotted to allow the wheels 10 to be withdrawn within the box. The wheel forks 9 are pivoted on spindles 8 and, together with the hinged end 16, are adapted to be operated by links 11, 12, 18 from the lid on the latter being opened. The hinged lid 4 is provided with a rim 6 for use as a handle and with a flap 22 preferably in two parts hinged together to form a canopy or hood, and side curtains may be provided. A hammock 25 is connected to the hinged lid 4 by means of springs 28 and adapted to be connected to the hinged end 16 at one of two positions according as a recumbent or sitting position of the child is desired, a transverse rod being provided in the latter case to divide the hammock into sitting and foot-rest portions. The whole is adapted to be closed and may contain cushions, the child's apparel, &c.
