Description

' No. 867,465. I PATBNTED OCT. 1, 1907.
J. L. BACON. COMBINATION BABY CARRIAGE AND HIGH 01mm.
APPLIGA'IION I'ILED FEB. 23, 1907.
'r FFICE.
JOHN L. BACON, OF JOLIET, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO LEM NORHAM AND ONE-THIRD TO MAURICE A. GRANT, BOTH OF .IOLIET, ILLINOIS.
COMBINATION BABY-CARRIAGE AND HIGH-CHAIR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1, 1907.
Application filed Februa y 23, 1907- Serial No. 359.005.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. BACON, a citizen of United States, residing at J oliet, in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby-Carriages and High- Ohairs, of which the'iollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in go-carts and high-chairs, and is a combined go-cart and highchair, and the objects of my invention is to so construct a child vehicle, that it can be conveniently changed from a high-chair to a go-cart or from a go-cart to a high-chair, and so that it can be folded into a small compass. 1 attain these objects by the mechanisms illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side view showing the go-cart position; Fig. 2 is a side view showing the high-chair position;
Fig. 3 is a side view showing the vehicle folded; Fig.
4 shows the foot-rest and connections; Fig. 5 shows the clamp for maintaining the high-chair position.
The side views conceal the exact duplicates of the parts shown, except the axles, which are entirely concealed, and the seat, back, foot-rest and center-brace, which have no duplicates.
The running gears consist of the four wheels and the bars 2 and the bars 3, each bar 2 has a hinged connection with the axle of the hind Wheels and the opposite bar 3, each bar 3 has a hinged connection with the axle of the front wheels and the opposite bar 2, bars 3, also, have a hinged connection with the bars 5, the latter operating as supports for seat 11, and, also, as fulcrums for the handles 1, the bars 2 are connected with the hangers 8 and the supports 7, the bars 4 have a hinged connection with the hangers 8 and-with supports 10, the latter supporting the toot-rest 17, the bars 9 have a hinged connection with the supports 10, with the pins 18 on ends of bars 9, movable on hangers 8, the bars 6 have hinged connections with handles 1 and lock connections with the pins in seat 11 and form supports for the arms 12, said lock connection is to permit the folding of the vehicle, by permitting the bolts riveted in upper end of bars 6 to slide slots 20, so that bars 6, arms 12, table 14 and back rest 13, can be folded in tandem, as shown in Fig. 3; the clamps 15 are to key the vehicle in high-chair position, as shown in Fig. 2, with pins in said clamps slidable in slots 19; the bars 16 are continuations oi the handles of clamps 15, and are intended as auxiliary braces, when using the vehicle as a gocart; the projecting ends of the center brace 21 lock bars 2 with bars 3 at a certain angle, and thus make the position of the vehicle as a go-cart, rigid as to being further lowered. When the vehicle is in go-cart posi tion, placeone foot on the hind axle, raise and slightly pull on the handles and bring bars 5 on line with the handles 1 and move the clamps 15 down over the ends of bars 5 and thus key the vehicle in high-chair position.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A combination go-cart and high-chair, the combining mechanisms consisting of two bars connected to the spindles on the out side of the front wheels, two bars connected to the axle on the inside of the hind wheels, each bar having hinge connection with the opposite bar connected to the other axle or spindle, the bars3 having hinge connections with the bars 5, the bars 2 having hinge connections with the supports 7, the handles 1 having hinge connections with the bars 5 and bars 6, bars 5 having hinge connections with seat 11, supports 7 rigidly con nected to seat 11, by means of which mechanisms the vehicle can be positioned as either a go-cart or highchair by bringing bars 5 and handles 1 in. lengthwise conjunction and keying them with clamps 15, as shown in Fig. 2, or releasing with said clamps, and allowing the vehicle to lower until the bars 2 and the bars 3 are locked by brace 21, as shown in Fig. 1, and the above named mechanisms in combination with the hinge connection of the back and seat, and slots in arms 12, and supports 7, by means of which the vehicle can be folded, all substantially as illus trated and set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN L. BACON.
Witnesses STEPHEN A. Goonsrnnn, EZEKIEL G. DAVIS.
