ANNIE M. MCLELLAN, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
FOLDING GO-CART.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 711,583, dated October 21, 1902.
Application filed April 17, 1902.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNIE M. MCLELLAN, a citizen of the United States of'America, and a resident of St. Paul, in the countyof Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Go-Carts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in folding go-carts.
The object of my invention is a go-cart that may be easily carried when folded and used as a chair or cot when extended.
My invention consists of a frame for supporting a seat, said frame being adapted to fold, a back for the seat, side guards, and a foot-rest, which are adj ustable upon said frame, and a system of adjusting-bolts for holding the parts in position.
My invention further consists of the following mechanisms, as described and claimed.
The accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, is a perspective view of my improved folding go-cart, its parts being shown in open position. cate the position the parts assume when the back of the seat is reclined for the purpose of converting the go-cart into a cot.
1n the drawing, let A and B represent two frames, which are pivoted by the bar 2 between their ends for the purpose of folding said frames when the go-cart is not in use. These frames are of ordinary construction and provided with the socket-plate 3 and the thumb-bolt 4, passing through the socketplate into the frame B for the purpose of fastoning the frames in open position, as shown in the drawing. The frames may be closed and locked by means of the bolt 4, which is adapted to pass through the opening 5 in the frame A into the frame B. The lower ends of the legs 6 and 7 are provided with the wheels 0, so that the go-cart may be wheeled about and used as a perambulator. The upper ends of the bars 8 are provided with the handle 9 and the upper ends of the bars 10 with the horizontal bar 11. The horizontal cross-bar 12 is attached to the arms 8 a short distance above the pivot-bar 2. The seat 13, made of cloth or other suitable material, is The arms 14 are pivoted by their lower ends on the hori- Broken. lines indi- Serial No. 103 ,271. (No model.)
zontal bar 12, and their upper ends are fastened by means of the cross-bar 15, to which the back of the seat 13 is attached. These pivoted arms 14 are adjustable by means of the bolt 16, which passes through the plate 17 into the arms 14. The plate 17 is attached to the arms by screws 18. The guards 19 are provided with the slotted extensions 20, through which bolts 21 are adapted to pass. The adjustments on the arms 19 and back Dare for the purpose of holding the back D and arms in reclining position, as indicated by the broken lines. The guards are pivoted on the horizontal bar 11, and their upper ends are fastened to the arms 14 by means of the cords 22. The guards 19 may be adjusted so as to recline the back of the seat as desired by means of the thumb-nuts 21. The lower ends 23 of the guards 19 are provided with the foot-rest 24, which is adapted to swing forward to the broken-line position when the back of the seat is reclined. When. the parts are extended and in use, the go-cart may be used as a perambulator, or as a chair when the back and side guards and other portions'of the vehicle are in the position indicated by full lines. When the parts are adjusted to the broken-line position, the device may be used as a cot. By folding the parts together the go-cart may be easily carried.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
1. A device of the class set forth, consisting in combination, a pair of folding frames having wheels on their lower ends, a lock for holding said frames open or closed, a chairseat carried by said frames, a back to said seat pivoted by its lower end to one of said frames, an adjusting connection between the free ends of said back and frame, side guards pivoted to the upper end of the second frame, adj usting-supports between said side guards and second frame, a connection between the upper ends of said guards'and back forming sides of the seat, and a foot-rest carried by the lower ends of said guards below the seat.
2. A device of the class set forth, consisting in combination, a pair of folding frames A and B, a lock 3 for holding said frames open, a seat attached to said frames, a pair of arms 14, a
. 10 a flexible seat and back supported by rods 11,
12 and 15, and cords 22 at the sides of the seat between said guards and arms.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANN IE M. MCLELLAN.
