FOLDING GO-CART.

Be it known that I, YAN PHOU LEEa subject of the Emperor of -China, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Folding Go-Oarts or Perambulators, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in folding go-carts or perambulators, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective devicey of this description which when adjusted for use will be as rigid and convenient as if of ordinary construction, and yet when not desired for use it may be collapsed into an exceedingly small compass, whereby it may be readily stored or transported from one place to another, thus providing for the carrying of the cart to picnics, excursions, and the like without material inconvenience.

With these ends in view this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.

In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, the construction Vand operation will now be described in detail, referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective of a cart madein accordance with my improvement in'adjustment for use; Fig. 2, a central section thereofg Fig. 3, a View showing the cart folded; and Fig. 4, a section of Fig. 3, showing the relative position of the various parts when folded.

In carrying out my invention as here embodied, A represents the back of the perambulator, which is in the form of a chair, and to this back is hinged the bottom or seat B, as indicated at C, so as to fold upward and inward and against the back.

Dare clips secured to the back, and to which are pivoted the arms E of the perambulator in order that the arms may swing horizontally and inward, as will be hereinafter set forth, and the outer ends of these arms have hinged thereto at F the front legs G. The side rails of the back have hinged to their lower ends lat H the rear legs I in such manner that said legs may be swung backward and upward against the rear of the back and when in position are held in adjustment by the snapsprings J. The front and rear legs are connected and braced by the rods K, upon the ends of which are formed hooks to engage suitable eyes attached to the legs. Each pair of legs is braced sidewise by the rods L, which are-likewise 'hooked into eyes attached to the legs. This arrangement forms a fourway brace and ties the legs together when in adjustment, so as to render them rigid.

Caster-wheels M are journaled in the lower forked ends of the legs G, and the casters N are journaled in the extensions O of the legs I, and these extensions have Shanks, preferably secured in cross-section,which enter into suitable sockets formed in the legs I, whereby they are held in any adjustment by the setscrews I.

Q represents the foot-board,which is hinged at R to the front board S, the latter in turn being hinged atT to the seat B, whereby these members may be folded one upon the other, as will be hereinafter set forth.

U represents the handles which are jointed at V and attached at U to the side rails of the back. These handles are held in proper position when inactive adjustment by the t0ggle-joints X,.which lock them in the positions shown in Figs. l and 2, or permit them to be folded in the position shown in Fig. 4.

From this description it will be obvious that the go-cart when ad j usted for use will be as rigid as a go-cart of ordinary construction, and yet when it is desired to collapse the same it is only necessary. to fold the footboard against the front board S and swing the seat upward against the back and the front board against the bottom thereof, when by removing the rods K and L the front legs may be swung upward against the arms and the latter turned inward against the footboard. The rear legs by unlatching the snapsprings .I may befolded against the rear of the back and the handles swung inward against said back. When the go-cart is in this condition, the various parts thereof may be held by passing a strap around the same, and, if desired,|the safety-strap Y, used to retain the occupant of the chair in position, may be used for this purpose.

Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction here shown, as these may be varied to a certain extent without departing from the spirit of my invention-as, for instance, suitable springs may be interposed between the seat and lthe frame, so as to give a resilient action, or such spring may be interposed between the easter-forks and the legs, which would eect the same result.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful isl. A go-cart or perainbulator consisting of a back, rear legs hinged thereto, a seat also hinged to the back, arms pivoted to the back so as to swing sidewise, a front board hinged to the seat, a foot-board hinged to the front board, front legs hinged to the lower ends of the arms, stay-rods for connecting the legs and holding them in adjustment, caster-rolls journaled in the lower ends of the legs, and suitable handles adapted to fold against the back, as specified.

2. A collapsible go-eart consisting ofa back,

a seat hinged thereto, a front board hinged to the seat, a footboard hinged to said front board, said members being adapted to fold against the back, arms pivoted to the back so as to fold inward against the foot-board, legs hinged to the arms, caster-rolls journaled in the lower ends of these legs, a pair of legs hinged to the back, adjustable extensions fitted within sockets formed in the last-named legs, set-screws for holding said extensions in position, caster-rolls journaled in the extensions, means for holding the legs rigidly in position, jointed handles attached to the back, and toggle-joints so arranged as to hold the handles in proper adjustment to permit them to be folded, as shown and described.,
