Abstract
237,902. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Gillette, R. T.). July 30, 1924, [Convention date]. Metals, powdered, obtaining coherent masses from. - Electrodes for resistance welding are made of a mixture consisting of 9 parts by weight of finely divided copper consolidated by pressure to form a coherent body and fired in a hydrogen atmosphere at a temperature of 1200- 1600‹ C. In a modification, the powdered tungsten is fashioned to the required shape in a press and is then partially sintered at 1500‹ C. in a hydrogen atmosphere. The mass is then placed in a graphite box with an excess of copper and heated to 1300‹ C. in a hydrogen atmosphere, the copper filling the voids in the porous mass of tungsten. The excess copper is removed by machining.
