Abstract

A room is constituted by two pre-cast modular half-room units. It may be factory - made of concrete or plastics, and may be fitted with services, fittings and finishes. The units may be an upper and a lower half of a room, joined e.g. at detail A.

PRE-CAST MODULAR SYSTEMS THE DESCRIPTION The invention relates to the use of pre-cast factory made units for travel lodges, hotel bedrooms, housing and prison cells.
Construction of these to date, has generally been done by in situ (site cast) concrete floors and walls, poured separately, which is time consuming and weather dependent.
Pre-cast concrete has also been used but a complete box has never been evolved which allows all services, fittings and finishes to be done at the factory.
Drawing No Jems. 1. shows how a factory made complete box unit can be constructed. The upper box, comprising roof & half storey height walls (produced as a single unit). The lower box, comprising floor & half storey height wall units (produced as a single unit).
The upper box mating with the lower box on a male female joint; see detail A on drg no Jems/1.
The box can be made of concrete, plastic or any other suitable structural materials.
The essential features of this invention are : 1. A complete weather-proof box is provided.
2. Structural continuity (stiffness) can be achieved by interconnecting all adjacent boxes both vertically & horizontally, refer to detail B on drawing Jems/l

Claims (9)

  1. PRE-CAST MODULAR SYSTEMS CLAIMS 1. By producing two matching half box unit's a complete factory made box unit can be made.
  2. 2. As a result of claiml, ail electrical & ail plumbing services, finishes together with fittings, such as water closets and wash hand basins, can be incorporated at the factory, independent of the weather.
  3. 3 A modular unit as claimed in 1. & shown on drawing no Jems/l. can be produced using the same internal shutters (the core) and external shutters for the upper & lower box
  4. 4. Quick release, hydraulic shutters can be used to produce the units described in claims 1 & 3
  5. 5. Dry cast, maximum output, techniques can be employed to produce the units as described in claims 1,3 & 4.
  6. 6. Stability of the complete structure can be achieved by welding the interconnected units both vertically & horizontally, see detail B on drawing No Jems/1.
  7. 7. The complete factory box unit as described in claims 1,3, & 5 can be produced on site, depending on the size of the development, thereby cutting out haulage costs from the factory to the site.
  8. 8. Erection of the complete factory made box and completion of all services & fittings made as described in claims 1,2 & 4 will show considerable time savings on traditional construction methods
  9. 9. The factory made box can be installed within the structure either as a half box or complete box.
