Abstract

237,539. Blumson, G. H. May 11, 1925. Hinges.-Hinges with a spring action for doors of articles of furniture and other hinged doors and windows comprise a vertical pivot pin mounted to slide within a recess in the door frame as the door is opened and to compress a spring arranged within said recess by the pressure of the hinged edge of the door against the adjacent face of the door frame, whereby the opening or closing movement is completed after the door has been pushed open or closed beyond a certain angle. As shown in Fig. 1, the pivot pin 4, on which the door is mounted, projects into a recess 9 housing a spring 28, the parts being secured in position by plates 16, 24 secured respectively to the door and framework. As the door is pushed open, the edge of the door abuts against the frame and the pivot pin is forced along the slot 27 in the, plate 24 and the spring 28 is compressed. When the edge of the door gets past the normal line of the door through the pivot axis, the spring acts to complete the opening movement. The plate 16 is formed with a protuberance 23 which engages with the fixed frame when the door is fully opened and prevents injury to the parts, and the plate 24 is formed with a bent-over part 31 and projection 33 with which the edge 20 of the plate 16 engages. In a modified construction, the spring is arranged between end members housed in the recess, one of which is arranged to slide with the pivot pin.
