Cylinders, construction of and cooling.-A cylinder with its sparking plug sockets 4, its holding down and strengthening flanges 5, 12, and ribs 6 on each side of the inlet and exhaust ports 2, 3, is machined from a solid block of steel, the inlet and exhaust passages being completed by cover pieces welded to the ribs 6. A water jacket 11 comprises two pressed sheetmetal members which are welded together and to flanges and bosses on the cylinder. the metal between the ports being drilled vertically to permit the circulation therethrough of cooling water.
