Abstract

Valve gear.-In hydraulically-actuated valve gear for starting-valves, means are provided for preventing opening of the valve until the backpressure in the engine cylinder has fallen to the pressure of the starting-air. The plunger d connected to the valve a, and actuated by a camdriven plunger and hydraulic connection h, is surrounded by a plunger e acted on by the valve. closing spring f. The plunger j, when forced inwards, first moves the plunger e against the action of the spring f, until the cylinder pressure has fallen sufficiently, whereupon the plunger d is actuated to open the valve to admit the starting-air from a passage b to the cylinder connected at c.
