Abstract

151,993. Brown, W. Oct. 2, 1919, [Convention date]. Four - stroke - cycle engines. - In engines in which the normal method of working consists in rejecting a portion of each charge during compression, a charge from a carburettor is drawn into the cylinder through a valve 6, which closes at half stroke, and any additional charge from a reservoir 9 then enters through a valve 8. This valve remains open until the piston has completed one-half its compression stroke, during which period a portion of the cylinder charge is transferred to the reservoir 9. An exhaust valve 7 is located between the valves 6 and 8. A non-return valve 14 is located between the induction pipe 12 and the reservoir 9. The valve 14 may be held to its seat by a screw which is lowered to engage the head of the valve.
