235,242. Pantoflicek, B. June 9, 1924, [Convention date]. Projectile fuzes. - A percussion fuze which acts directly when the shell strikes the objective nose first, and also operates by rebound of the striker when the shell strikes base first, includes a spring plunger 15 which absorbs the rearward momentum of the striker and throws it forward to cause ignition of the cap 22. The invention is shown applied to a relay fuze which is armed on discharge by the set back of safety pins 19 retained by a spring band 20. During flight balls 17 escape laterally through circuitous passages 18 under the action of centrifugal force and free the primary striker 13. If the shell strikes base first, the striker 13 receives its forward firing movement by the rebound of the plunger 15 transmitted through a ball 14. The forward movement of the striker 13 permits of the lateral escape of balls 23 and the release of a secondary spring striker 24 which fires the cap.
