Description
1 2339821 CLOSURE COMPRISING A METAL DOOR AND FRAME The present invention
relates to a closure comprising a metal door and frame for residential use, multipurpose and as a firebreak, the door being of the type formed by two preformed trays or plates and assembled together to form a whole in the interior of which is a space in the form of a chamber which can be filled with an appropriate insulating material and the frame presenting the means destined to achieve the breaking of a thermal bridge.
Currently, many different types of metal doors are known, generally constituted by two trays of which one fits into the other, with both the lateral edges and the upper edge showing a step or rebate flange of little thickness, giving place to a finish which is little resistant to rust for example, and of an unattractive aesthetic aspect.
Therefore, in this known type of metal doors, constructed on a basis of two trays which fit together, in the lower edges of them there is a cut so that in this way the edge of one of the trays or plates is totally exposed, without protection against rust.
With reference to the background concerning frames for closures the existence of Spanish Utility Model 9900021 of the same applicant should be noted, referring to an improved frame for closures, comprising a metal profile the section of which defines an inner cavity which remains open at the lateral designed to be fitted to the wall, this interior cavity being filled with an insulating material.
One of the specialities of this frame is that the profile forming it presents a longitudinal cutting which separates it into two parts, directed respectively towards the inner side and towards the outer side of the closure.
This cutting determines the separation of the profile into the two parts referred to, preventing thermal exchange through it.
The said frame presents a construction difficulty consistent precisely in the correct carrying out of the cutting which affects the whole length of the profile.
The closure the subject of this invention has the purpose of improving efficiently the structural, sealing and appearance characteristics presented by the metal 2 doors known at present and dedicated to the specified uses, and to eliminate the operation of the cutting mentioned above in reference to the fi-ame.
According to the present invention there is provided a closure comprising a metal door and frame: the door comprising two preformed trays or plates assembled together to form a whole within the interior of which is created a space in the form of a chamber for insulating material; and the frame being adapted to be fixed to the opening in a wall, in order to support the door which forms the closure; the closure including:
a) the means of assembly between the two outer and inner trays or plates, formed by a first profile defined by three right-angle folds and one fold at an oblique angle of approximately 45 in the outer tray or plate and by two right-angle folds in the inner tray or plate, this inner tray or plate enclosing the outer tray or plate but leaving an opening of rectangular section for the lodging of a sealing joint, this assembly applying to the upper border of the door and/or the two lateral borders; or b) means of assembly between the two outer and inner trays or plates formed by four right-angle folds in the outer tray or plate and two right- angle folds in the inner tray or plate this inner tray or plate enclosing the outer tray or plate leaving an opening of rectangular section for the lodging of a sealing joint, this assembly applying to the two lateral borders and/or the upper border of the door; c) means of assembly of the outer and inner trays or plates in the lower border of the said door, having a configuration in the shape of a clamp with one of its wings longer than the other, so that the said lower border can be adapted to the shape of the flooring, in the case that there is any unevenness between the two sides of the door, the hollow of the clamp being provided to hold a sealing joint.
Therefore, the advantages provided by this metal door can be surnmarised in a greater overall structural resistance, a better facility for insertion and difficulty of extraction of a sealing joint and a better finish for the purposes of protection against rust.
The frame with breakage of the thermal bridge, included in the closure the subject of this invention, is formed throughout its length by two parallel profiles which are slightly distanced and which form the inner and outer surfaces of the fi-ame. It is envisaged that the aforementioned profiles defhie at opposite ends their respective parallel parts, which are orientated towards the interior of the fi-ame and fixed by separator elements which connect the two profiles.
3 In accordance with the invention, the outer and opposite ends of the two profiles can be finished at the same height in the interior of the fi-ame in order to make their correct positioning easier, before being fixed by the separator elements.
These profiles will present an appropriate configuration in order to define between them a cavity which is open on the side designed to be fitted to the wall; the said cavity can be left empty or be filled to a greater or lesser degree with an insulating material, such material being, according to the application, polyurethane foam, plaster, or any other material which has a low coefficient of thermal conduction.
According to a preferred form of the invention,, the separator elements can be formed by fasteners of insulating material, having two longitudinal cavities destined to receive in their interior the lower ends of the profiles, these being separated by the material of the fasteners forrriing the separation between the two longitudinal cavities. These fasteners can have a reduced length, carrying out the fixing of the lower ends of the profiles at regular points or a greater length in order to grip the whole length of the said end parts.
The aforementioned separator elements may be presented in other configurations, and can be formed, for example, by separator bushes of insulating material in the interior of which are the elements for fixing the profiles, these fixing elements possibly being screws, rivets or some other similar device.
In order to achieve a better finish for the frame, it is envisaged that it can have a covering joint of insulating material mounted between the opposite end parts of the profiles to hide the separator elements which establish its fixing.
In order to complete the description given here, and with the purpose of aiding the better comprehension of the characteristics of the invention, the present description is accompanied, as an integral part of it, by a set of drawings in which, with a purely illustrative but not limiting character, the following are represented:
- Figure 1 shows a front view of the improved metal door the subject of this inventiorL - Figure 2 shows a section, according to the line A-A of figure 1, showing the assembly between the trays or plates in the upper edge of the door, including the sealingjoint.
4 - Figure 3 shows a section, taken on the line B-B of figure 1, showing the assembly between the trays or plates in the upper edge of the door, including the sealing joint.
- Figure 4 shows a section, taken on the line A-A of figure 1, showing the configuration of the lower edge of the door in the case of the existence of unevenness in the flooring between one side of the door and the other.
- Figure 5 shows a transverse section of the profile of the sealing joint.
- Figure 6 shows a transverse section of an example of the execution of the two profiles destined to form the frame and the separator element designed to hold them in the proper assembly position.
- Figure 7 shows a transverse section of any of the sections of the frame, showing the two profiles joined by the separator element shown in the previous figure, the insulating material which fills the inner cavity of the frame and the joint mounted between the two end parts of the profiles.
- Figure 8 shows a variant of the execution of the separator element intended to relate the two profiles forming the frame.
As can be observed in the figures referred to, the closure the subject of the invention includes a metal door I constituted by two trays or plates, an inner 2 and an outer 3, either or both of them being able to be provided with decoration or mouldings. Between the trays or plates 2 and 3 a space is created in the form of a chamber, in order to be filled with appropriate insulating material.
Figures 2 and 3 represent sections following the axes A-A and B-B of figure 1, showing respectively the assembly 4 of the upper edge and/or the lateral edges of the door, including the sealing joint 6, and the assembly 5 of the lateral edges and/or the upper edge of the door, including the sealing joint 6.
Figure 4 represents a section in accordance with the line A-A of figure 1, showing the assembly 7 of the lower edge of the door with a specific configuration, in the case of unevenness in the flooring between the interior and exterior areas.
Figure 5 represents the section of the profile of the sealing joint 6, showing its specific design, which includes the claws which prevent its removal from its housing unless by use of an appropriate tool.
As is shown in figure 2, the assembly 4 of the upper edge and/or the lateral edges of the door is constituted by three right-angle folds and one fold at an oblique angle of approximately 45" to the outer tray or plate 3 and two right-angle folds in the inner tray or plate 2, the latter enclosing the outer tray or plate 3, and leaving an opening of rectangular section for the fitting of a sealing joint 6.
As is shown in figure 3, the assembly 5 of the lateral edges and/or the upper edge of the door is formed by four right-angle folds in the outer tray or plate 3 and two right-angle folds in the inner tray or plate 2, the latter enclosing the outer tray or plate 3, and leaving an opening of rectangular section for the fitting of a sealing joint 6.
As is shown in figure 4, the assembly 7 of the inner and outer trays or plates of the lower edge of the door has the configuration of a vertical clamp, with one wing longer than the other, for the purpose that the aforesaid interior edge can adapt to the configuration of the flooring, in the cases that there is an unevenness between the two sides of the door, there being an opening provided in the clamp for the housing of a sealing joint.
As is shown in figure 5, the sealing joint 6 has a profile and characteristics suited for its insertion both in the opening supplied by the assembly 4 and in the opening supplied by the assembly 5; the flap 61 of the seal 6 is maintained at an acute angle, preferably about 30, to one of the wings of the said seal 6, when the seal 6 is not inserted into the door, as shown in figure 5, and adopts the position shown in figures 2 and 3, with the flap 61 parallel to the said wing and the seal 6, when this is inserted in the door, thus achieving a stronger sealing position; again, the seal 6 has in its lower face another wing with some claws which carry out the function of fixing it to the metal profile of the door, so that the said seal 6 cannot be pulled out, unless by the application of great force or an appropriate tool.
6 As can be noted in the figures referred to, the fi=e employed in the closure the subject of the invention is formed by two profiles 8 and 9 which form the inner and outer surfaces of it and are arranged parallel and slightly apart. The profiles 8 and 9 show at the opposite ends the respective parts 81 and 91 arranged in parallel between themselves, slightly apart and fixed by the separator elements.
The separator elements can be formed, as represented in figures 6 and 7, by some staples 10 of a insulating material which define two longitudinal cavities 101 designed to receive in them the lower ends 81 and 91 of the profiles 8 and 9, these parts 81 and 91 being separated by the material 102 comprised between the two longitudinal cavities 10 1.
Optionally, as shown in the example given in figure 6, the separator elements can be composed by bushes I I of insulating material, through the interior of which pass some elements I 10 to establish the fixing of the profiles 8 and 9, these elements I 10 possibly being screws, rivets or other similar devices.
Independently of the configuration presented, the purpose of these elements is to maintain the separation between the profiles 8 and 9 and produce the breaking of the thermal bridge, in preventing thermal exchange between them.
These profiles 8 and 9 define in the interior of the frame a cavity which remains open at the side destined to be fitted to the wall; in the example of execution shown, this cavity is filled with a insulating material 12.
As can be observed in figure 2, the fi-ame can include a joint 13 of insulating material destined to be positioned between the lower parts 81 and 91 of the profiles 8 and 9, hiding the existing separation between these and acting as a trim covering the joint.
It is not considered necessary to extend this description finiher so that any expert in the matter can understand the reach of the invention and the advantages it brings.
The terms in which this memorandum has been drafted must be taken always in the broadest sense and without limitation.
