Driving; mandrels and turntables. - Gramophone and other small motors are constructed with an inner member having an even number of poles and an outer member with half this number one member being unwound, the width of a pole face on the outer member being greater than that of two pole faces on the inner member, the airgap being of uniform width over one pole face of the inner member and of increasing width over the other. As shown, the poles of a wound stationary inner member are in two series A, B energized alternately, and are tapered and provided with loose rings 15 against which the coils abut, the poles being detachably secured to the yoke ring 17. A sound-deadening pad 40 is positioned under the coils A, B. The unwound rotor C is integral with the turntable 25 and is covered with plush &c: 26 secured by a removable ring 27. Ribs 26a are provided for steadying the table during running. Governor mechanism 34 of known form and a commutator switch are mounted in a box-frame 35 - - 37 beneath the motor. The motor is connected to supply mains through the plug 9 and a made-up resistance flex as described in Specification 229,203, [Class 37, Electricity, Measuring &c.], can be employed.
