Abstract

Machines and apparatus. -The compression space of an internal-combustion engine is varied by an auxiliary piston B the movement of which is effected by hydraulic means under manual or automatic control. The pressure behind the auxiliary piston is adjusted by means of a valve on the discharge side of the chamber E, consisting of a plunger G, a transverse passage in which may be brought into register with one of a number of ports L in the wall of the chamber. A through passage K ensures the equilibrium of the plunger G.
