Abstract
230,467. Abadie, J. B. J. M., and Courtines, N. M. March 4, 1924, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-The pressure of gas or vapour in a discharge tube is maintained constant by providing in the tube or in a chamber connected therewith a substance which emits bv evaporation or dissociation the same gas or vapour as that in the tube. As shown in Fig. 3, a bulb 2 containing the substance is connected with the tube 3 through a bulb 6 containing a dehydrating material such as phosphoric anhydride, a wad 5 of cotton or glass being placed in the connecting tube. The bulbs may be connected separately with the discharge tube, or the bulb 6 may be omitted. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the substance is mounted near the cathode 9 on an adjustable airtight stopper 10, so as to be heated by the discharge. In modifications the substance is contained in a hollow electrode or in an enlargement of the tube. so as to be heated by the discharge. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 29839/12, 1218/13, 12256/13, 5557/15, 210,728, and 225,890.
