Safety valves.-A safetyvalve controlled by an auxiliary valve acting through a relay valve has the main valve member fitted with an anti-scoring device. The main valve seat 5 is formed on a cylindrical member 4 and is surrounded by an upstanding flange 6 provided with ports 8 and the valve member 2 has a seating surface 9 surrounded by a corresponding- ly ported sleeve 3 adapted to slide on the member 4. The valve member 2 is carried by a spindle 12 loaded by a spring 13 and actuated by a piston 11 having a leakage port 14. In the event of an abnormal rise of pressure a pilot valve opens against the action of a spring 20 and permits inlet pressure to act on a piston 18 and unseat a relay valve 19. This connects the cylinder 10 to atmosphere and allows inlet pressure acting on the piston 11 to open the main valve.
