229,905. Nagel, T. May 5, 1924. Briquetting processes. - A binding material suitable for briquetting finely-divided ores is made by mixing together 1-10 parts by weight of pure or crude ortho-phosphoric acid and 6-30 parts by weight of an adhesive carbohydrate such as blackstrap molasses, so that, upon heating to a temperature between 400‹ and 1000‹ F. the binding material is made tenacious, waterinsoluble and non-fusible. The phosphoric acid may be replaced by an acid phosphate such as that of calcium and the blackstrap molasses bv beat-sugar residue, starch paste, concentrated sulphite liquor, concentrated molasses residue after producing alcohol, or other saccharine material.
