Abstract
256,838. Ostlund, (nÚe Klint), V. C. Oct. 14,1925, [Convention date]. Briquetting processes.-In briquetting ore concentrates, especially iron ore concentrates, molasses is used which before being mixed with the concentrates is heated to such a temperature that the sugar of the molasses is caramellized. The method consists in heating the molasses to about 220‹ C. and mixing the caramellized product with water. The solution is mixed with the ore concentrates, which is then briquetted in a press and dried at a temperature of 150‹ to 160‹ C. to evaporate the water. Instead of molasses, other cheap sugar solutions may be used, either alone or mixed with dextrine, starch or other substance. Such substances may also be added to the molasses. The proportion of molasses may be from 1 to 3 per cent of the weight of the ore.
