Abstract

228,611. Hughes, W. T., and Angold, H. E. Nov. 6, 1923. Electric hand-irons.- An electric iron is provided with a pilot lamp connected in shunt with part of the heating circuit or the connections thereto, the lamp being fitted to and detachable with the socket or connection for supplying current to the iron, so that when the apparatus is being used, the lamp, the supply connection, and the iron form a solid whole, the lamp being protected from the heat generated in the iron. The supply comprises an insulating casing a made in two halves and containing sockets c, i for engaging the terminals of the iron. The socket i is surrounded by an insulating sleeve l on which is wound a resistance m, the ends of which are connected to the terminals n and the socket ! i respectively. The lamp o is connected electrically across the ends of the resistance. The supply leads pass through an insulating bush f and a flexible spring g to the socket d and terminal n repectively. In a modification, Fig. 3, the connection is fitted with an auxiliary socket u which engages an auxiliary terminal t on the iron. The lamp o is connected to the socket u and one of the, main sockets so as to form a shunt across the part v of the heating element q.
