Abstract
144,191. British Thomson - Houston Co., (General Electric Co.). Nov. 11, 1919. Binding-posts and terminals; couplings. - A bushing for electrical conductors is constructed so as to be readily adaptable for various uses with different types of electrical apparatus, such as transformers, oil-switches, and electrolytic lightning-arresters. A central tubular conductor 12 having threaded ends protrudes beyond two cap members 15, 16 secured to the ends of two insulating-members 10, 11 through which the tubular conductor passes; to the protruding ends of the conductor are secured, in an interchangeable manner, a variety of conducting accessory members according to the type of electrical ap. paratus with which the bushing is to be used. Fig. 1 shows an oil-filled bushing adapted for passing a conductor through the casing of a power transformer. The cap member 15 incorporates a transparent member 17 enabling the oil level to be ascertained; the end 13 of the tube 12 has secured to it a cap 20 with a " breather " passage 21 and also a terminal 25; the end 14 carries a cap 16 only; a conductor 22 sweated into a member 23 screwed into the terminal 25 is secured by a pin 24 to the member 20. Fig. 4 shows a contact shoe 52 fitted to the cap (for charging certain tanks of an electrolytic lightning- arrester), and also.a conducting-member 50 shaped to impart desired electrical characteristics to the end of the bushing. Fig. 2 shows the bushing equipped for service on metering-apparatus. The tube 12 forms one side of a double conductor circuit through the bushing, and a rod 30 the other. The rod 30 is insulated by a sleeve 31. Terminal connexions to'the rod are constituted by members 33, 36, and the tube terminals are 32, 35 insulated as shown. The oonducting-members 33, 36 are drawn together by a nut 38, a suppcrting-sleeve 39 preferably, being secured to the cap member 16. Fig. 3 shows the device in use with. an oil switch, the conductor 12 supporting, a fixed contact 42 of the switch, at one end, and conducting-. members 40, 41, the latter having lifting-hooks, being secured at the other end.
