Abstract
145,839. British Thomson - Houston Co., (General Electric Co.). March 27, 1919. Vacuum or low-pressure apparatus, arrangements of; transformers. - In a self-contained portable X-ray apparatus, the tube 1, as well as the transformer 11, 12, is immersed in oil or like 23 in an earthed container 16, the dielectric strength of the oil not only allowing the tube terminals to be nearer together than their normal air gap distance, but serving also to cool down the anode 6, which is connected to the exterior of the tube by a pipe &c. 7 of copper or some other good heat conductor. The cathode works at incandescence and is heated by a current passing from a coil wound round the transformer core so that its voltage varies with the variable voltage impressed on the primary circuit.
