Abstract

229,203. Youldon, C. A., and Pearce, W. H. H. Aug. 11, 1924. Wire resistances, cored and embedded. -A set of resistance conductors adapted for use as lead-in flex for modifying the voltage of ordinary domestic supply to suit different electric circuits, such as model railways, gramophone circuits &c., is arranged so that the conductors of the set are readily assembled and interchangeable, and have predetermined and different ohmic values. The conductors may be respectively proportioned, for example, to obtain a reduction of twenty-five. fifty, and one hundred volts. Each conductor preferably comprises a chrome-nickel wire d wound on an asbestos core e and coated with asbestos c. Two such conductors may be wound together like ordinary flex. Each end of each conductor is provided with a socket member A comprising an outer insulating sleeve a, which grips the asbestos covering c, and a conducting sleeve b, which is threaded and takes over the wire d and core. e. A socket may be converted into a plug by screwing in a threaded member B. The set may comprise three or four such conductors. By selecting the appropriate units of a set various voltage .reductions may be obtained. A heating unit may be formed by bridging the wires of the end conductor of a set by means of a plug containing a connecting wire.
