Abstract
227,501. Carty, M. W. Oct. 11, 1923. Smoke and fumes, washing.-Waste gases from boiler furnaces are purified by passing them into a duct having a dead space opposite the entrance of the gas stream, water sprays, and passages between the entrance and the dead space for removal of the purified gas. The furnace gases pass into an uptake 13 divided into ducts 17, 18 by a hopper 14, and the tops of the ducts are closed by a number of separators comprising each a V-shaped or pyramidal compartment 25, Fig. 4, having an arched top wall 25a and side walls 25<d>, which form an apex 25<c> constituting the dead gas space. The gases on entering the separators are sprayed with water from jets 40, 41, and the dust particles being thus concentrated in each apex fall through the passages 26 into the hopper 14, while the purified gas passes over the side walls 25<b> and is drawn off through the uptake 13<a>. Specification 227,196, [Class 8 (ii), Air and gases, Treating &c.], is referred to.
