Measuring.-In apparatus for measuring cloth &c. of the kind wherein a pair of indicators is provided for indicating to the salesman and the buyer the length of material which has been measured, movable pointers are provided for the salesman's indicator 42, Fig. 2, and independent pointers for the customer's indicator 41, Fig. 1, gearing being provided intermediate the pointers for moving them simultaneously to indicate identical measurements. As shown, each indicator has a pointer 36 or 36<a> for indicating complete yards, a pointer 27 or 27<a> for indicating eighths of yards and inches, and a pointer 28 or 28<a> movable with the pointer 27 or 27a for indicating inches in measuring remnants. The remnant-measuring pointers are set in advance of the pointers 27, 27a by a distance corresponding to the distance between the cutter and the highest point of contact of the cloth with the measuring-roller. Independent dials may be provided with pointers for indicating yards and fractions of yards. The indicators are driven from the measuring-roller by spur and bevel gearing, the pointers being driven by epicyclic gearing or by the kind of mechanism employed in driving the hands of clocks.
