Abstract

Computing-apparatus for use with weighing apparatus comprises a carrier, such as a drum or polygonal rod, on which are mounted a number of removable and interchangeable strips any one of which is adapted to be set manually to display the values of a series of articles weighed at a given price per unit the carrier being disposed in juxtaposition to or coaxial with the weight indicating scale of the weighing apparatus. As shown in Fig. 1 applied to a machine with a lever balance mechanism, a drum 1 is rotatably mounted on a shaft 2 and carries a number of interchangeable strips 4 arranged longitudinally and inscribed with a series of computations, as shown in Fig. 3, derived from the price unit of the various weights given on the weighing scale 20, 21. The lever arm 7 carries a cylindrical segment 16 having an inclined indicator line 23 for co-operation with an indicator line 19 on the scale strip 18. In a modification the drum may be arranged concentrically with the lever arm 7, the segment being formed of transparent material or replaced by a wire 23 arranged in known manner. For weights exceeding the " 99 " mark additional indicator lines 23 and separate indicators 29 are provided. The points of intersection of these lines with the fiducial line 19 determines the values which must be added to give the total cost.
