404,594. Echo - sounding apparatus. FLORISSON, C. L., 11, Rue de Cronstadt, Courbevoie, Seine, and SOC. DE CONDENSATION ET D'APPLICATIONS MECANIQUES, 42, Rue de Clichy, Paris, both in France. July 29, 1932, No. 34880 /33. Convention date, July 30, 1931. Divided on 404,383 and addition to 389,646. [Class 118 (ii).] In echo-sounding apparatus for use on aircraft as claimed in the parent Specification, the depth is directly indicated by the position of a pointer at the instant the echo is heard. As shown in the Figure, a clockwork driven cam 13 closes contacts 16 controlling the emitter 17 once in each revolution, the contacts being closed when a pointer 49 secured to the cam-shaft 52 is at the zero of a scale 50. The operator notes the position of the pointer 49 when the echo is heard and sets a marking pointer 51, actuated by a handle 53, to this position, the dial being marked to indicate depths directly. The position of the marking pointer 51 may be transmitted to a distant pointer 58 by any known means such as the wire 59, the distant pointer being illuminated by a lamp 64 which is lit by the operator closing a switch 63 when he has correctly positioned the marking pointer 51. The dial and pointer are translucent so that the pointer and graduations cannot be seen unless the lamp is lit. Specification 404,383 is referred to.
