Abstract
226,342. Poppe, P. A. Nov. 12, 1923. Valve gear.-Overhead inlet and exhaust valves are actuated by cams on a shaft D in a casing B at the side of the cylinder heads, one valve being actuated by a rocker E, and the other by a push-rod J and rocker F. Separate cams may be provided, or a single cam may serve both valves. The rod J extends through a guideway which may be formed in the cylinder head or may comprise a separate tube secured therein. The cam shaft may be at the side of the cylinder bodies, in which case the rods J would pass between adjacent cylinders or through their water jackets. The two valves may be arranged in a plane inclined to the longitudinal axis of the engine.
