Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act] Discharging. - In a discharge device for shaft furnaces &c. of the kind comprising a shoot with a pair of valves d, e, which are operated alternatively to prevent the escape of gases, the feed of material from the furnace to the shoot is controlled, for example, by an oscillating gate c. The movements of the gate are so timed that the feed is interrupted during the closing of the valve d.
