Abstract
253,391. Sobek, E. Sept. 2, 1925. Discharging.-The lower end of a continuouslyoperated shaft furnace s communicates with a closed chamber g supplied with an air blast at h and connected to a discharge pocket the entrance t6 and outlet from which are controlled by rotary plate valves n, p interconnected with the rotary discharge plate b and so arranged that one is always closed when the other is open. The valves n, p are formed as discs having oppositely-disposed apertures r, r<1> and are rotated by a shaft a driven by a motor through worm gearing t, u. The discharge plate b, which is formed as a frusto-conical ring surmounted by a fixed cone d and having curved or straight ribs c, is driven by an extension v of the shaft s, this extension carrying a pinion x meshing with the rack y. In order that the plate b shall remain stationary when the valve n is open and thus allow the whole of the material which has accumulated in the chamber g to enter the pocket j, the shafts s, v are connected by a coupling w maintained in engagement by springs and disen. gaged by a cam disc H secured to the shaft s and bearing against the underside of a pivoted arm q.
