Abstract

160,142. Hildesheim, F. W. March 13, 1920, [Convention date]. Disc and like mills.-Liquid, dough-like, or pulverulent substances are ground or triturated by one or more rotary grinding-discs in a casing which receives a rotary or oscillating movement so that grinding takes place alternately between the upper and lower faces of the disc and the corresponding surfaces of the casing. As shown in Fig. 1, the axis 4 about which the casing 3 is rotated is at right-angles to the axis 2 of the grinding-disc 1. The disc 1 is free to slide on but rotates with its shaft 2, which is driven by bevel-gearing 13, 14 from a shaft 12 driven by spur gearing 10, 11 from a bush 8 which is free to rotate on the shaft 4 and carries a pulley 9. The pulleys 7, 9 of the shaft 4 and bush 8 are driven in opposite directions, and the shaft 2 may be driven from both ends as shown in dotted lines. When grinding a fine powder, a blast of air may be introduced into the casing through the shaft 4 at one side to blow out the powder through the opposite side. The shaft 4 may be inclined to the shaft 2. Two or more discs may be arranged side by side on separate shafts, or one above the other on the same shaft with a wall between them. One or more openings are provided in the casing for the introduction of the cacao &c. to be ground.
