Shaft furnaces; discharging.-A discharging device for lime-kilns, silos, and other vertical shafts comprises radial guide plates b inserted in the hoppershaped lower end a of the shaft, these plates serving prevent clogging by dividing the charge into separate streams and to relieve the walls a of a considerable part of the weight by being bent as shown. The plates b also taper to a point at the lower end in order not to obstruct the discharge outlet c which is fitted with a sliding or other closure device.
