Abstract
225,138. Imray, O. Y., (Raymond Bros. Impact Pulverizer Co.). June 4, 1924. Thrust bearings; dust, excluding; lubricant, retaining.-The packing for the bearing of the roller journal of a pulverizing- mill comprises a flexible channel ring 33 having a spring filling 34 pressing the inner edge of the channel against the journal, and dust-excluding means below the channel ring 33. As shown in Fig. 1, the dustexcluding means consists of annular grooves 32 in a ring 30 bolted' to the bearing housing 12, lubricant leaking into the grooves 32 acting as an oil seal. The spring filling 34 for the ring 33 may consist of one or more metal strips 35, Fig. 3, bent into looped formation. In a modification, Fig. 5, a ring 36 has dust-excluding flanges 38, 40, the former depending in a groove 39 in the roller 10. The weight of the roller and journal is taken by a thrust ring 16, Fig. 1, bolted to a flange 14 on the journal 11 and bearing on a ring 17 fixed in the housing 12.
