Abstract
224,920. Steffens, H. F., (Assignee of Thermokrat-Akt.-Ges., and Ernst, W. E.). Nov. 16, 1923, [Convention date]. Cylinders, construction of.-An auxiliary combustion space 1 has a projecting member 4 which during compressoin forms a pocket 6 for the burnt gas, a surface 5, behind the igniter 2, acting as a refector for the explosion waves. The size of the pocket 6 and the height of the surface 5 may be adjustable and a choke tube 10 may separate the auxiliary and the main combustion chambers. The pocket may be formed by an inlet pipe 16, Fig. 4, for air or mixture, the head of the valve 17 then acting as the reflecting surface. Ignition may take place in a branch passage of the space 1, or the pocket may be formed as a branch passage the end of the space 1 then acting as the reflector. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification in which the pocket may be formed by a sieve of palladium or nickel stretched across the space 1. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
