Abstract

Treating ores to facilitate concentration and to remove undesired constituents. - Oolitic, marly, or like iron ores having a calcareous gangue are preliminarily treated by heating them at 900-1050‹ C. so as to drive out carbon dioxide from the gangue, and slaking the product; the calcined and slaked material is separated by grinding or rubbing operations or by other means. The slaking and grinding may be combined with a blast-sifting or like operation.
