Description
A TIE
The present invention relates to a tie and in particular to a two piece common tie.
A common tie may be defined as a front hanging necktie whereby a knot is positioned at the front of a shirt collar and extends down the front button placket of the shirt. Existing, neckties are available in two main forms. The first and most common being a single piece necktie which is wrapped around the neck usually inside the fold of the shirt collar and tied in one of several variations of knots at the front of the neck. The knot can be untied and retied and is normally done so between uses. The second type is known as a clip on tie. The clip on tie is also a single piece necktie but it is not wrapped around the neck but simply fastened to the collar by means of a clip. The knot is preprepared by the manufacturer and usually cannot be untied.
One disadvantage of the first type of common tie is that once a knot has been made, the knot has to be untied or loosened in order to remove the tie. For persons who have trouble or dislike tying knots, or when the tie is removed for only a short time, or when the person is in a hurry this common necktie is clearly disadvantageous.
The second type of common necktie suffers from the disadvantageous that the knot is pretied or prefixed by the manufacturers and is accordingly not flexible for those persons who occasionally wish to tie their own tie.
According to the present invention there is provided a tie capable of being worn around the neck of a person, comprising at least two portions being detachably coupled. Embodiments of the present invention are defined in the remaining apended claims.
By way of example only embodiments of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which:
Fig 1 is a schematic diagram of an unknotted and
detached tie according to the prefered embodiment;
Fig 2 is a knotted and attached tie;
Fig 3 is a knotted and detached tie; and
Fig 4 is an unknotted and attached tie.
A tie 1 comprises at least two portions 3. Said portions 3 are detachably coupled with a means for coupling 5. In this preferred embodiment a couple of press-studs are used.
As shown in Fig 1 the tie 1 is initially unknotted having the two portions 3 detached. Fig 3 illustrates the tie 1 having been knotted and attached and in a suitable condition for wearing by a person. When the person wishes to remove the tie 1, the person merely releases the coupling means 5 as shown in Fig 3. When the person wishes to wear the tie 1, the tie 1 is simply positioned round the neck of the person and the coupling means 5 are recoupled.
The tie 1 as shown in Fig 4, may be used as a common tie having the press studs 5 already fastened prior to donning the tie 1. However, the person may simplify donning the tie 1 by knotting it prior to wearing the tie 1.
The present invention is therefore advantageous over common ties hitherto available. The coupling means 5 may be provided with the strength such that if the tie is pulled or caught by any machines, objects, persons or animals, the coupling means 5 would release prior to the tie material being torn. Furthermore this would protect the person from physical harm.
The present invention provides the person wearing the tie 1 with a great degree of flexibility since the tie does not need to be untied or loosened in order to remove it. Furthermore as fashions change, the person may alter the knot accordingly.
It should be noted that the tie 1 may be fabricated from a number of materials or fabrics, may be of various lengths, various widths and of various shapes. Also the coupling means 5 may be provided by a number of means including buckles, snaps, buttons, hooks, zips, velcro (a registered trade mark), tie strings or other known coupling means.
The foregoing description of the preferred embodiment of the present invention has been given by way of example only and it should be noted that modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.
