Abstract

A necktie device is provided with a band section which is adapted to overlie the center of the front of the neckband of a shirt and to be held in place thereat. Parallel rearwardly and forwardly downwardly depending tie panels are carried by the band section, with the forwardly disposed downwardly depending tie panel being untied and presenting an entirely unbroken and completely unobscured outer surface. A spacer means is disposed immediately below the band section and in contact with the rearward side of the forwardly disposed downwardly depending tie panel for influencing the latter outwardly with respect to the forward side of the parallel and rearwardly disposed downwardly depending tie panel. A pair of oppositely disposed aligned headed pins extend through and transversely of, the edges of the forwardly disposed downwardly depending tie panel at positions which are immediately below the aforementioned spacer means; and a connector block is disposed between the inner ends of the headed pins and adapted to firmly receive the same, said headed pins being otherwise unconnected.

INVENTORS Earl 7. Nakes H Robert U. Ge/b, Jr.
ATTORNEY NECKTIE WITH SIMULATED FOUR-IN-IIAND KNOT AND TIE-TAC THEREFOR This invention relates to neckties, and more particularly to a device which is attachable to the collar of a shirt and which closely simulates a knotted four-inhand necktie.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide an attractive necktie of the four-in-hand variety which is attractive in appearance, which eliminates the necessity of tying and untying a knot, and the consequent wrinkling, dirtying, and wearing-out which is so characteristic of conventional four-in-hand neckties, and which permits the-pattern of the necktie to continue and without a cross-member in simulation of a four-in-hand knot, uninterruptedly throughout the entire visible portion of the forwardly or outwardly disposed tie panels.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages will become more apparent after referring to the following description and appended drawings, wherein like refer ence numerals designate like parts, and wherein:
FIG. I is a front elevational view illustrating one form of a necktie which embodies the teachings of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a front elevational view with the tie-tac means removed and the forwardly or outwardly disposed tie panel elevated to expose the spacer means which assists in the formation of the simulated four-inhand knot;
FIG. 3 is a view which is similar in nature to that of FIG. 2, but illustrating a modification of the invention wherein the spacer means between the forwardly and rearwardly downwardly depending tie panels actually takes the form of a knot which is invisible when the tie is worn; and
FIG. 4 is a view illustrating the manner in which the knot of the embodiment of FIG. 3 is formed from the material of which the tie is made.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral l designates the band portion of the device of the invention which is adapted to extend either wholly or partially around the neckband of the collar of the shirt of the wearer, being acceptably of the well-known elastic adjustable type which provide a fastener element at each of its ends, as shown at 2 and 3, whereby it may be secured in position.
The rearward downwardly depending panel of the tie of the invention is shown at 5 as underlying the band portion 1, and it is folded forwardly over said band portion to become the forward tie panel 7 which depends downwardly to completely overlie the rearward panel 5.
Disposed between the upper ends of the rearwardly and forwardly tie panels 5 and 7, and immediately below the band portion 1, is a spacer element 10 which, in outline, resembles an inverted pyramid, and which is thickened-up in its central portions in the manner of a pillow. This spacer element 10 may be formed of any ofa wide variety of materials, including sponge rubber.
As shown in FIG. 1, the side edges of the forward or outward tie panel 7 are somewhat pinched together around the sides of the spacer element 10; and are held in such position by a tie-tac arrangement which comprises a pair ofinwardly directed headed pins 12 having pointed ends 13.
Disposed between the inwardly directed pins 12 is a cylindrical member 14 of rubber or other suitable resilient material into which the pointed ends 13 of the headed pins 12 penetrate and are securely, but adjustably held.
In the foregoing manner, then, the side edges of the 5 forward or outer tie panel 7 are, at points adjacent side edges of the spacer element 10 directed therearound, in simulation of a four-in-hand knot; the tie-tac holding said side edges against either inner or outer transverse movement.
If desired, those portions of the side edges of the rearward tie panel S and the adjacent side edges of the forward tie panel 7 which are above the tie-tac arrangement provided by the headed pins 12 and intermediate resilient cylindrical member 14 may be stitched together (not shown). Likewise, the adjacent portions of the side edges of the rearward tie panel 5 and/or the adjacent portions of the side edges of the forward tie panel 7 may be attached by sewing (not shown) to the band portion 1.
Laundering of dry cleaning of the forward and rearward tie panels 5 and 7, respectively, (and particularly the former) may be easily effected upon removal of the tie-tac device provided by the headed pins 12 and the intermediate resilient cylindrical member 14.
Due to the absence of a four-in-hand knot, uniformity in the pattern in the outer surface of the forward tie panel 7 is obtained, and there is eliminated the problem of wear at what would otherwise be the knot structure.
Referring to FIGS. 3 and 4, a modified form of the invention comprises a substitute for the previously described spacer element 10. This substitute is made-up by wrapping the forward member or tie panel 7 first in overhand direction and around the rearward member or tie panel 5' and then under and overhand around itself (the forward member or tie panel 7') then downwardly through the V-shaped yoke which is formed thereby and completely around both legs of the yoke to the rear thereof; to be finally brought up through the rear of the yoke and extended forwardly therethrough and made to depend downwardly over the rearward member or tie panel 5' in such manner as to fully cover the same.
' As in the case of the earlier described embodiment the adjacent portions of the rearward and forward members or tie panels 5 and 7 respectively, may be sewn to each other and to the band portion 1 wherever desired; and the tie-tac arrangement is the same. In all forms of the invention, the forwardly disposed downwardly depending tie panel is parallel throughout with the rearwardly disposed downwardly depending tie panel, is untied and with a completely unobscured outer surface.
Having thus described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
I claim:
1. A necktie device adapted for disposition at the front of the neckband of the collar of a shirt in simulation of a knotted four-in-hand necktie, the same comprising, in combination a band section which is adapted to overlie the center of the front of the neckband and to be held in place thereat a rearwardly disposed downwardly depending tie panel carried by said band section downwardly depending tie panel at positions which are immediately below said spacer means said headed pins being in axial alignment and a connector block disposed between the inner ends of said headed pins and adapted to firmly receive the same whereby, said headed pins clamp both of the side edges of said forwardly disposed downwardly depending tie panel, and, with the aid of said spacer block, prevent the excessive inward transverse movement thereof said headed pins being unconnected except through said connector block.
