Swanton d-khmoup UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR GEORG-E MILLERLEI, OF EVANSV ILLE, INDIANA.
NECKTIE-SPREADER.
Application filed April 14, 1919.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR Gr. h/IILLERLEI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State of Indiana, have invented anew and useful Necktie-Spreader, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention is a necltie spreader, the principal object being to provide a device for retaining the tie in a position to prevent creases or folds therein,tl1us adding to the general appearance of the tie.
It is another object of the invention to provide a necktie spreader which will not injure or mar the tie in any way whatsoever and which may be readily engaged or disengaged therefrom.
Another object is to provide a deviwe for holding a neclrtie in flattened condition and which will be unnoticeable to the wearer.
An additional object is to provide a device of this character which is invisible, which is simple in construction, which consists of few parts, and which may be manufactured and sold at a minimum cost.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the combinations of elements, constructions and arrangements, and general assemblage, which will be hereinafter enlarged upon in the following specification, and pointed out in the sub-joined claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 illustrates an elevational view of a necktie, having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 illustrates a transverse sectional view disclosing the manner of securing the invention to atie. Fig. 3 illustrates a front elevational view of the spreader, forming the subject matter of the present invention, and Fig. 4t illustrates a fragmental view of a spreader, showing the protecting head in cross section.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 23, 1920.
Serial No. 289,916.
Referring to the accompanying drawing in detail the numeral 5 designates a fiat bar or shank which has its opposite ends reduced as at 6 to afford piercing points 7 which are engageable in the tie. These tie engaging points 7 are formed in annular grooves 8.
Rounded heads 9 as provided are engageable upon the ends of the piercing points and are provided with resilient catches l() which are engageable in the grooves 8.
In the use of the device the piercing points are engaged in the inturned longitudinal edges of the tie and the bar disposed transversely of the tie, the resilient heads being then engaged upon the points 7.
The embodiment of the invention here shown and described is considered the preferred construction but it is to be understood that the invention may be modified in many respects and that my limits of modification are only governed by the sub-joined claim.
What is claimed is:
In combination with the inturned edges of a iiecktie, a retaining device including a relatively long body portion having a central relatively wide fiattened portion, shoulders formed adjacent the ends of the body portion, the ends of said body portion being reduced to provide piercing points, an annular groove formed in each of the reduced portions of the body portion, and means adapted to house the piercing points, and cooperating with the walls of the grooves, for holding said means into position thereon.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR .GEORGE ltfILLERLEI.
