Abstract

The marker, e.g. of plastics material, comprises a stem 10 with a pointed end 12 in the shape of an arrowhead at one end and an enlargement 14 of circular or substantially triangular shape at the other end thereof. The enlargement may be parallelly offset from the pointed end (Fig. 4). The arrowhead may incorporate barbs 16. <IMAGE>

Description

TIE tIARKER.
This invention relates to a tie knot marker to be located in a tie at the location where a tie knot requires to be knotted so as always to have the knot at the correct position with the tails of the tie equally lengthed.
Accordingly, the present invention is a tie knot marker comprising a stem pointed at one end and having an enlargement at the other end.
Preferably, the pointed end is shaped as an arrowhead. The arrowhead preferably incorporates barbs.
Preferably also, the enlargement is circular in the form of a disc or of a circlet.
Alternatively, the enlargement is of substantial triangular shape.
The enlargement is preferably parallelly offset from the pointed end.
Preferably further, the tie knot marker is of plastics material.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: Fig. 1 is a plan view of a tie knot marker according to a first embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 2 is a rear view of a knotted tie with the marker as shown in Fig. 1 positioned in its location in the tie; Fig. 3 is a plan view of a tie knot marker according to a second embodiment; and Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of the marker of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings of both embodiments, a tie knot marker comprises a stem 10 pointed at one end 12 and having an enlargement 14 at the other end. The pointed end 12 is shaped as an arrowhead.
In the first embodiment, the arrowhead shaped pointed end 12 is barbed at 16 as shown and the enlargement 14 is a disc as shown, or alternatively can be a circlet.
In the second embodiment, the arrowhead shaped pointed end 12 has no barbs and the enlargement 14 is substantially triangular shaped as shown in Fig. 3. In this embodiment, the pointed end and stem are parallelly offset from the enlargement.
The tie knot marker or both embodiments is of a plastics material having the properties not to be affected by either periodic washing or by the chemicals used in periodic dry-cleaning.
In use, a marker is located in a tie 18 in a position next to where a knot 20 is to be tied as shown in Fig. 2. The marker is held by the enlargement 14 and with the pointed end 12 leading is pushed to pierce the material of the back of the tie 18. The marker is pushed until the arrowhead shaped pointed end 12 is through the material with the shape of the arrowhead of both embodiments preventing the marker from disengaging from the material of the tie 18. The pointed end 12 and stem 10 lie inside the tie 18 between front and back materials. The enlargement 14 prevents the marker from working its way fully through the material. The marker with the barbs 16 as can readily be appreciated remains in the tie 18 during the life of the tie 18 ie. during cleaning and pressing operations, whereas the marker without the barbs may be removed if required.
In a modification of the first embodiment, the enlargement 14 can be parallelly offset from the pointed end.
Variations and other modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention as above described.
