Abstract

A sectional tie having a main tie body in the shape of an elongated strip comprising at least a first and a second tie portion (14,15) separate from each other and capable of being coupled to form said elongated tie body, in which fastening means for fastening (16,17,18) said first and second tie portions to each other (in an engageable and disengageable manner) are provided respectively on said first and second portion (14,15).

Description

  • The present invention relates to a tie in which the elongated tie body can be sectioned in a plurality of tie portions fastened to each other in an engageable and disengageable manner.
  • As it is known the most commonly used tie is composed, as shown in figures 1 and 2 attached hereto, of a single elongated strip 10 in fabric with patterns and/or colours generally distributed evenly over the entire length of the tie.
  • From figure 1 it can be noted that the elongated tie body 10 of the traditional tie has two portions of strip 11 and 12, in which one of the two portions of strip, the one denoted by 11 in figure 1, has a width which overall is greater than the width of the other portion 12. As a result thereof, when the tie is wound around the neck of the wearer and knotted, the portion of greater width, as shown in figure 2, arranging itself in front, hides the portion of strip of smaller width from view.
  • It is therefore fully clear that the use of precious and decorated fabric for the narrower portion of strip which is hidden from view represents a useless waste of precious material of considerable cost.
  • Ties are known which are composed of only the preformed knot and of a single elongated portion-strip in which the underlying portion-strip is completely missing. These ties are attached to the wearer's neck by means of an elasticated tape.
  • Ties composed in this way, although allowing a saving in precious fabric when manufacturing the tie, are not fully approved of by the wearer, since they do not allow him to adjust the knot as he pleases nor the tightness applied by the elasticated tape around the neck. Therefore this solution, although it leads to a saving in precious fabric, does not accomplish the convenience which is achieved by using traditional ties in which the underlying narrower portion enables the winding around the wearer's neck to be tightened or loosened as required.
  • Another problem concerns the excessive volume occupied by traditional ties for example in the luggage of persons travelling. In fact for this persons it would be very advantageous to carry a certain number of these of different colours and patterns and at the same time do not occupy too carge a space in the luggage.
  • The object of the present invention is that of providing a tie whose manufacture requires a quantity of precious fabric which is smaller than the quantity currently used to form a traditional tie, at the same time maintaining, with this new tie structure, the same aesthetic and functional features and those of ease of arrangement of traditional ties.
  • A further object of the present invention is that of providing a tie which allows a smaller volume to be occupied than that occupied by traditional ties, for example in order to take up less space in the luggage of the person travelling.
  • The previous objects are accomplished with a sectional tie having a main tie body in the shape of an elongated strip comprising at least a first and a second tie portion separate from each other and capable of being coupled to form said elongated tie body, in which fastening means for fastening said first and second tie portion to each other in an engageable and disengageable manner are provided respectively on said first and second tie portion.
  • In this way a tie is obtained which can be sold in the "halved" version, with a considerable saving in raw material and relative costs, and which is assembled to form a traditional tie structure directly by the wearer of the same tie.
  • The previous features and other advantages of the present invention will be understood better on reading the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
    • figure 1 is a plan view of a traditional tie in an unknotted condition;
    • figure 2 is a front view of a traditional tie in a knotted condition;
    • figure 3 is a plan view of a first preferred embodiment of the sectional tie of the present invention in an unassembled condition;
    • figure 4 is a plan view of the sectional tie in figure 3 in an assembled condition;
    • figure 5 is a front view of the tie of the present solution knotted so as to define a first aesthetic solution of the sectional tie;
    • figure 6 is a front view of the tie of the present invention knotted so as to define a second aesthetic solution of the sectional tie;
    • figure 7 represents a side view of a detail which highlights fastening means accomplished by press-studs;
    • figure 8 represents a side view of a detail which highlights fastening means accomplished by tear-off tapes;
    • figure 9 is a plan view of a preferred embodiment of the sectional tie of the present invention in an unassembled condition;
    • figure 10 is a plan view of the sectional tie of figure 9 in an assembled condition.
  • Figures 1 and 2 which have already been commented upon previously in relation to the definition of the technical problem which the present invention proposes to overcome , show that the tie is formed by a tie body in the form of an elongated strip.
  • Figure 3 shows the sectional tie 13, according to the present invention, which is composed of a first tie portion 14, decorated with desired colours and/or pattern, and of a second tie portion 15, separated from the previous one and having overall a smaller width than the previous first strip 14, or even equal thereto, it also being decorated with desired colours and/or a pattern. It can be noted in figure 3 that each of the two tie portions 14 and 15, separate one from the other, along the half length of the elongated strip form a sort of tie-half of a traditional tie.
  • According to the present invention, by coupling the two tie portions one to the other along the line 16 in correspondence of their matching ends, a complete tie quite similar to a traditional tie is provided.
  • In the subsequent figures 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, for convenience of description, the same elements bear the same numerical references.
  • Figure 4 shows the sectional tie of the present invention in an assembled condition; in this embodiment the two matching ends have been attached one to the other by suitable fastening means.
  • It is very easy for the tie wearer or purchaser to be able to engage, for example by buttons and corresponding buttonholes (not shown in the figures), and disengage, the two tie portions, and it therefore can be imagined how it is possible to supply the purchaser, when the purchase is made, with only one of the two tie portions forming the sectional tie of the present invention. The other tie portion may already be in the possession of the same purchaser who will, by choosing the strip to combine as he pleases, assemble the complete tie directly.
  • In this way therefore a tie can be accomplished with features similar to traditional ties and with a reduced use of raw material.
  • Moreover the fact of being able to produce a tie basing on two tie-halves enables, for example for persons travelling, to carry, instead of a certain number of ties, a certain number of tie-halves which will at the appropriate moment be assembled to provide a tie which is quite similar to a traditional tie, the tie-halves advantageously occupying less space compared to traditional ties in the luggage of the person travelling.
  • Figure 5 shows the sectional tie of the present invention knotted in the same way as a traditional tie; nevertheless, with such a tie structure, another aesthetic result can be achieved as shown in figure 6.
  • In this figure 6 it can be seen that by arranging the wider tie portion 14 beneath the narrower tie portion 15 a different aesthetic solution from that of a traditional tie is obtained which, by an appropriate choice of the colours and/or patterns of the separate strips which make up the tie, enables the wearer to form a tie with the desired colours directly.
  • Clearly, by combining a certain number of tie-halves appropriately according to this arrangement in figure 6, a much higher number of assembled ties than that of the tie-halves owned can be provided, it being sufficient therefore to have a few, preselected tie-halves to obtain the combination of colours and patterns desired.
  • Figures 7 and 8 show, seen from one side, details of two other embodiments of the means of attaching the two strips 14 and 15 which form the sectional tie of the invention.
  • More particularly figure 7 shows fastening means made with press-studs 17, while figure 8 shows fastening means made with Velcro-type tear-off tape 18.
  • These fastening means, which are easily engaged and disengaged, enable rapid and easy composition of the tie and are especially useful when there is a limited amount of time for assembling the tie or suitable instruments for the aforementioned sewing are not available.
  • Obviously any other fastening means capable of attaching removably the two matching ends of the two tie portions of sectional tie can be envisaged for the present invention.
  • The tie of the invention is composed of elements preferably in silk, nevertheless any other fabric or material, be they synthetic or natural, may be used.
  • In a second preferred embodiment shown in figures 9 and 10, at least one elongated strip, or tie-half, obviously preferably the front one, can easily be subdivided into further parts 19, 20 and 21; each part being decorated with desired colours and/or pattern which differ from those which decorate the other parts of strip.
  • Figure 10 shows the adjacent parts of strip attached one to the other at their matching ends along the lines 22 and 23 so as to form the front tie portion 24 which is in turn attached, again along the line 25, to the rear tie portion 26. Obviously there is no reason why this rear tie portion 26 cannot be subdivided into parts of strip.
  • In order to assemble the various components of the sectional tie, all the fastening means of the type described above can be used.
  • Obviously it is possible also to fasten in a fixed way some of the previously mentioned components of the sectional tie by sewing; moreover, with additional advantage, the individual parts or portions of the sectional tie are provided in a reversible version, that is to say with faces having different patterns and colours.
  • By simply arranging the respective and coupling members of the fastening means on the ends of the two tie-halves or of the parts of tie-halves to be attached, it is therefore possible to provide a tie which, once assembled, is able to perform the same functions as a traditional tie.
  • It is understood that what has been written in the description and shown in the accompanying drawings has been given purely by way of a non-limiting example of the invention claimed.
