Stud-and-socket fastenings. - In a stud-andsocket fastening, the socket has a pocket-like recess with resilient walls with a ridge past which the stud has to be forced. The stud is inserted in an enlarged opening and moved past the ridge to a constricted part of the opening to prevent vertical removal. Figs. 1 and 3 show one form, the stud e being inserted into the left-hand larger portion of the opening b in the socket c and forced past the ridge d to engage the neck of the stud in the narrower part. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the stud e is inserted into the socket c in the direction of the arrow i, the head entering an enlarged opening above the part m and slipping past the ridge d into the pocket of the socket, where the neck of the stud is held in a narrow part of the socket opening. In the form shown in Figs. 6 and 8, the stud e is of the elongated form shown and is inserted into the socket c in the direction of. the arrow i. The stud is inserted over the part m, pushed past the ridge d and is held by the engagement of its neck in a narrow part of the opening in the socket c.
