Abstract

221,526. Strafford, W. W., and Pick, S. May 15, 1923. Materials for making coke and other products. -In carbonizing mixtures of finely divided non- caking and caking coals, the caking coal is reduced to powder and formed into an emulsion with water or other liquid, whereupon the finely divided non-caking coal is mixed therewith. The caking coal forms a permanent binder for the non- caking coal and the liquid a temporary binder for the mass, which is afterwards consolidated in a. mould and charged into a carbonizing chamber. The water may contain soft soap, and creosote may be used.
