Abstract

Cylinders, construction of.-A combustion chamber comprises a long duct formed by a partition within the chamber, the valves being placed at its extreme outer end. The partition c<2> forms a spiral duct in the cylinder head c which is connected to a valve box d having fuel air and exhaust valves f, e and g respectively; ignition may be by a sparking plug h or a hot tube igniter. Instead of communicating with 'the cylinder by a hole c<5> the duct may have an opening adapted to communicate with a hole in the cylinder wall. According to modifications, the duct may be formed as a concentric or sinuous passage, or an axial tube may be surrounded by a larger tube, the annular passage between the two being connected to a radially arranged valve-box; it may be of rectangular cross-section, a semi-circular end connecting the two conduits formed by the partition, the conduits being arranged either radially or axially.
