Abstract
217,354. Ball, W. H. March 26, 1923. Band; locking by frictional detents; energyabsorbing elements.-A brake for perambulators &c. comprises in combination a brake drum 10 having a notched rim to engage the wheel spokes 2<a> and means for retaining the brake band 9 in applied position in a readily releasable manner. One end of the band 9 is anchored to a lug 8 projecting from a bracket 5, whilst the other end of the band 9 is anchored to a lug 8 projecting from a bracket 5, whilst the other end is adjustably secured to a lug 11 on the brake lever 7, which is pivoted in a fork 5<b> on the bracket 5, and passes through a slot in a bracket 13 secured to the side spring of the perambulator. By engaging a notch on the brake lever with one of a series of teeth on one side of the slot of the bracket 13, the brake may be held applied, whilst a spring 16 may be provided to assist its release. When each of the front wheels carries a brake, the levers 7 are connected by a transverse rod for simultaneous actuation. According to the Provisional Specification, the brake drum may be secured to the wheel by the engagement of pins on the hub with perforations in the side wall of the drum.
