Abstract

216,866. K³ng, E. June 1, 1923, [Convention date]. Open tray burners.- Burners in which liquid or semi-liquid oil is burnt on an evaporating surface towards which is directed an air jet comprise one or more air conduits a having nozzle apertures b for supplying air under low pressure and a symetrically arranged concave evaporating surface c upon which oil is introduced from a pipe or pipes d. The bottom of the burner casing may be covered with cinders, asbestos pieces, &c. The upper part is curved backwardly towards the centre of the burner to baffle and give shape to the flame, or other baffles may be provided. The burner is ignited by means of alcohol &c. or by a fire as of wood or paper laid on the oil layer. In the modification shown in Fig. 4 the nozzles b supply air under low pressure centrally of a circular concave trench constituting the evaporating surface.
