Abstract

338,235. Fifer, A. J. J. Aug. 23, 1929. Spray burners; vaporizing-apparatus.-Crude or heavy oil with or without light oil is.supplied through one or more pipes 4 in a film to a circular convex or conical surface 11 and mixes with air supplied through a central passage 2 in the burner head 1 to a hood 15 arranged above the surface 11. The oil and air mixture then mix and burn with additional air supplied through an annular passage 18 between the burner head 1 and a casing 21. The casing 21 is shaped to form a sump 22 provided with holes 23 for draining away unignited oil. In Fig. 1 the pipes 4 are shown supplying oil to an annular channel 6 in the burner head from which the oil flows through channels or grooves covered by a thin plate 12 to a smooth portion 10 of the surface 11 where it is met by the air issuing through the space 17 between the burner head and the edge of the adjustable hood 15. In Fig. 4 the burner head is shown formed of three parts 1, 24. 25 and the oil is supplied by a pipe 4 to a channel 34 from which it passes through an annular space between the parts 1, 24 to the surface 11. The removable hood 15 is formed with spaced distance pieces 26 resting on the part 25 and has a conical surface 30 opposite the surface 11. The burner is ignited by a gas flame or burning waste placed in or adjacent the sump 22. The air may be supplied under natural or forced draught and the oil may be supplied under a pressure head or, by an adjustable wick arranged in the passage 2.
