Abstract

216,300. Rett, C. E., and Anderson, G. S. April 24, 1923. Moulding wheel tyres.- Cushion tyres of the type comprising a solid rubber body provided with transversely extending ports, such as described in Specification 172,733, are formed by placing a rim 18 on a rim holding template in a definite position, building up a base structure 21 to the desired height by extrusion or from superimposed strips, placing cross-wise at intervals blocks 22 of rubber of a length greater than the width of the finished tyre and at intervals substantially greater than the holes in the finished tyre, applying the tread structure 23, removing the rim and contents from the template, inserting in a compressing and vulcaniizng mould and subjecting to vulcanization. During vulcanization the blocks 22 are displaced to fill the intervening spaces. The invention is carried out by apparatus described in Specifications 216,429 and 216,430, [Class 144 (i), Wheels for vehicles].
