Abstract

949,744. Re - utilizing tyre carcases. PIRELLI SOCIETA PER AZIONI. Aug. 2, 1962 [Sept. 8, 1961], No. 29687/62. Heading B7C. Sound tyre carcasses, of the type having a cincture between carcass and tread, with worn treads are re-utilized by removing the tread 2 and at least part of the cincture 5 (Fig. 2), applying a layer 7 of uncured elastomer (Fig. 3) and curing in a mould to unite the layer to the original tyre and form it into a casing unit for a tyre of the replaceable tread type (Fig. 4). The whole of the cincture may be removed or some may be left to reinforce the strips of parallel cord which may be added, before the layer 7 is applied, to form a breaker. The process may be applied to the tread portion only or new sidewalls may also be applied. Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) illustrate other casing profiles for receiving replaceable treads.
