Abstract

215,611. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). June 14, 1923. Heating by electricity.-A boiler 5 has electrodes 6 immersed in the contained liquid, the vapour from which passes by a pipe 11 to a coil 10 immersed in a second boiler 7, whereby the contents of the latter are heated and vaporized. The condensate in the coil is returned by a pump 13 to the first boiler. The boiler 7 has a feed inlet 8 and a vapour delivery pipe 9. The electrodes 6 may be adjusted for depth of immersion. The boiler 5 may be run at a higher temperature and pressure than the boiler 7, and to the water therein may be added calcium chloride, sodium hydroxide or similar substance to reduce the electrical resistance. The liquid used in boiler 5 may have a higher boiling point than that in boiler 7 whereby the former may be run at atmosphericpressure and the latter under high pressure.
