Abstract
215,031. Ridley, M. N. Nov. 22, 1922. Road and rail wheels; tyres, non-elastic, and rims.-The running wheel 43 of a vehicle of the mono-rail or mono-track type has a convex tread and its effective radius of curvature is greater than the height of the centre of gravity of 'he vehicle above the road. The width of the tread is not substantially less than one half of the radius of the wheel, or, alternatively, the width of the tread is not substantially less than onesixth of the height of the centre of gravity of the vehicle above the road. The undercarriage framework 3 is provided with transverse members 4, Fig. 6, one of which carries the King-pin 13, which may be out of centre with the axis of the wheel to provide a castor action for the bogie, and a ball or roller race 12 facilitates turning of the bogie. The wheel 43 shown has a convex tread of which the central portion may be flat and the remainder an arc of varying curvature, or it may be provided with a circumferential groove 47 to engage a raised rail, or with a circumferential rib to engage a recessed rail.
